Central Park's Iconic Naumburg Bandshell Reopens With 1 SOUND’s Tower Column For The Main PA
Soloist Gil Shaham, The Knights Orchestra and Aiofe O’Donovan open the 116th season of Naumburg Orchestral Concerts in Central Park with 1 SOUND PA system.
“The sound was dramatically upgraded, the orchestra never sounded so dynamic” was the quote from a long-time concert patron.
L&M Sound & Light from NY provided the audio support, using (6) LCC44’s per cluster for the left and right along with a CSUB610 in cardioid mode per side. This small-looking PA has wide, controlled coverage. The cardioid properties of the Towers cancel out the sound in the rear of the PA making the on-stage sound clean for mic-ing the orchestra. The properties of the Tower loudspeakers, like their cardioid behavior and attention to high frequency, make the audio the most precise and intimate reproduction of the instruments. The audio was mixed so that at 150 feet from the stage the sound was so intimate they did not know if it was amplified or not because the sound was so natural.
“The brass and woodwinds were especially sonorous and rich, perhaps a function of Atkinson’s arrangement or the acoustical properties of the bandshell. Whatever the reason, their sounds added a rustic sensibility to the Beethoven, seldom encountered in a concert hall, which was intensified by the singing of birds and the rustling of the American elms that frame the bandshell, as if nature herself were joining in the celebration.” - Rick Perdian
The Naumburg foundation was very pleased with the result. All positive reviews across the board.
